Kruger National Park was officially established in 1926 and named after then-President Paul Kruger. Since then, it has become one of South Africa’s most iconic tourist destinations, drawing millions of local and international visitors each year.
Home to the renowned Big Five and an extraordinary diversity of wildlife, Kruger has played a vital role in biological conservation and the protection of natural habitats for nearly a century.
Skukuza, a town located in Mpumalanga, serves as the administrative headquarters of the park. The name "Skukuza" is derived from the Shangaan language, meaning “he who sweeps clean,” a reference to transformation or change.
A proposal has now been brought forward to rename Kruger National Park to Skukuza National Park. What do you think — should the name change?
