With more than 22 children dead in recent weeks, President Ramaphosa has called for implicated Spaza shops to be closed, while giving all Spaza shops 21 days to register with their local municipalities, a goal which many deem impossible. Communities and civic groups have raised ever more urgent concerns about food safety, illegal operations, and the broader impact on local businesses. Some call for their closure, citing public health risks, while others fear food shortages. Your input is vital to inform local policy and community decisions.
