This Mandela Day, DearSA is stepping up to make a difference in the lives of the most vulnerable – baby rhinos! We are on a mission to collect 67 blankets to keep these precious creatures warm and cozy, and we need your help.

This Mandela Day, DearSA is stepping up to make a difference in the lives of the most vulnerable – baby rhinos! We are on a mission to collect 67 blankets to keep these precious creatures warm and cozy, and we need your help.

South Africa is home to over 70% of the world’s rhino population, giving you thousands of reasons to donate and make a difference. Our goal is to collect 67 blankets, and we invite everyone to contribute to this meaningful cause. To donate, please get in touch with us at hello@dears.africa to arrange a drop-off.

We are specifically looking for different types of blankets to meet various needs. For the Anti-Poaching Unit (APU), we need dark-coloured blankets in black, dark grey, dark green, brown, or dark blue, sized 130cm x 180cm (51” x 70”). These blankets should be made from lightweight yarn (ideally DK or light worsted/5/6 ply) without any holes. In addition to blankets, we also welcome beanies and scarves, but only in black.

For the carers who look after the rhinos, we are collecting cheerful and colourful blankets sized 130cm x 160cm (51” x 63”) or larger. These blankets will bring some much-needed colour and warmth to the dedicated individuals who work tirelessly to protect and care for the rhinos.

For our baby and older orphan rhinos, we are gathering colourful blankets sized 120cm x 120cm (47” x 47”) and 140cm x 160cm (55” x 63”). These blankets will help keep the rhinos warm and comfortable, providing them with a sense of security and care.

We are also supporting community projects and welcome any size colourful knitted or crocheted blankets, children's beanies, scarves, toys, and ladies' hats. Please note that we cannot accept purchased or fleece blankets.

Every blanket counts, and together, we can make a huge impact. Let’s unite for a cause that truly matters and show our commitment to the protection and care of these magnificent creatures.

For more information or to arrange your donation, please contact us at hello@dears.africa. Donations can be dropped off at or sent to 12 Dundalk Avenue, Parkview, Johannesburg, 2193 or 124 Runnymead Road, Chartwell, Johannesburg.

Join us this Mandela Day and be a part of something truly special. Together, we can make a difference!
